Dipper Notes 05.06.14

I was able to search for the dippers this afternoon after work and found the male feeding one fledgling up above Bridge #9 and the bandshell near the creek area that is just below the tennis courts where there is an island . I only saw one fledgling and the male stayed close by; feeding and singing. The fledgling was flying pretty confidently and picked on some vegetation and moss.  It got in the water a bit as well.
I did not see a second fledgling when i walked up and back from Bluebird Park.
I walked under the Main St. bridge and checked the nest culvert and it was empty and the nest was in disrepair so no attempts are currently being made to rebuild. The female was nowhere in sight . I checked under Water St . bridge and there were no signs of any recent nest building activity. fdl
