Today I stopped by the 3rd bridge and immediately encountered Mr. Green gathering moss. He flew up under the bridge with the material and came back down a couple minutes later. I couldn’t tell for sure which nest box he was going to. An un banded bird appeared and although I didn’t see nesting material it did fly up under the bridge. I watched Mr. Green collect moss several times and take it under the bridge, mostly moss from close by, but 2 trips down creek. I got under the bridge next to the bank while Mr. Green was down stream and waited for his return. He, almost immediately took the moss into the 1st nest from last year (in the nest box). He spent about a minute in the nest before emerging. He came down to a rock about 15 feet from me and he seemed aware of my presence, and did not move to collect moss. When I got up to leave after several minutes he took off down stream. Looks like they are refurbishing the old nest. Photos below.
I also spent about 30 minutes around the reservoir and spillway. One un banded bird observed in the creek above the reservoir, about half way up towards Granite St. bridge. It was singing, no other dipper seen. Eric
